Barcelona! Parc Guell and Las Ramblas.

We are now in Barcelona! Planned this trip while in NYC, booked the hotel and bought train tickets while in France and now having a great time. I love when I plan something out form just a passing thought and suddenly I am here! Hotel is one block off the main strip in the Ramblas so it's quiet at night...has wi-fi, cheap and awesome. Today we went to do one touristy thing and saw Parc Guell and the Gaudi art. Pretty freaking cool! The we walked around the area at night for hours and man is it amazing here. Just as great as I heard if not more so. Roman buildings everywhere next to the best tapas and bars. Street kids and crazies galore and everyone parties all damn night. I posted a ton of pics here cause I have so many more to put up plus tomorrow we hit the famous Encants flea market which i am excited about. Then I made all of John's dreams come true but finding a movie theater we can walk to that plays Planet of the Apes in english. HE IS FOREVER IN MY DEBT!
This is a nice break from Sauve and when we get back there it's all beach, waterfalls and music until we leave on the 15th. What a great summer. I love traveling and seeing new countries if only one small part of it. Then i get to run wild in NYC and make up for all my sobriety here by getting wasted for a month straight!

Some pics from Marseille boating and street art!

Oops! Shark art came out twice!
Quick post to put up some pics from our trip to Marseille with Aline. It was amazingly amazing!
Went on a boat two days to hit some great gorgeous spots for swimming. Turquoise water, free of crowds...saw fish and dove off rocks. What can I say? It was like paradise.
Then wandered the city and saw some cool weird shops and I LOVE the graffiti and murals that cover Marseille. Such a great city. Mix of tourists, slums and traveling kids. Hippies and crusties. Punk bars and antique shops. I have a lot more pics from my real camera I need to find time to upload but these are some from my phone.
John took some great ones too I need to get from him. The streets there are so incredible. Second time I have been there and I liked it even more this time around. Pics are a jumble and I don't have time to fix it so I will just keep posting more pics I have next time. Going to Barcelona monday with John until Augsut 1st then we switch to a new apt in Sauve where we will do music and podcasts until we leave on the 15th. And we have some gigs and some recording to do too of course. Trip is half over and I am so so glad to not out of NYC right now!
I feel inspired already and when I come back I have so many plans for the rest of the year.

First post from France! Paris and Sauve pics, yo.

Le blog! Le blog! Well, I am now in he land of freedom frites and having a great time!
Went to Paris for a few days and found the crazy Museum of Anatomical Oddities that is on one floor of a vet school. Got to see many gross things in jars of formaldehyde and lots of two headed animals. Top pic is of a flayed man on a freaking horse. I love going to places and finding all the weird stuff to do.
Then there are some pics of the big waterfall we go to in Ganges which is popular and crowded but beautiful. There are lots of others where no one is there at all but we like sitting underneath the waterfall which you can do if you crawl around the rocks and get behind the water coming down. That is Le Vis, which is the cleanest water in France apparently.
Then that shot of the SUPERMOON or whatever people were calling it does not do justice to how amazing it looked here when that huge red moon was out. It looked surreal, like I was looking at a painting of the moon.
Then there is Sophie and I hanging out in La Place the small center of the village where people come and drink and watch bands in the evening.
And then there's John and Crumb listening to 78s in Crumb's room for hours and hours and hours.
We will be doing a lot of podcasts from that room soon and recording stuff for out new album too.
Heading to Marseille to go out on a boat and swim this week then will be hitting Barcelona just to walk around and see the city. And I can sort of speak Spanish so that will be something kind of cool. My french is pretty much a mix of Spanglish and made up words.

Important questions! Plus my mom and I drawn by R. Crumb!

What a great last week I have been having in NYC! The weather was awesome and I needed a few rainy days as I am behind in packing and getting ready to go to France for the summer. So much stuff going on I would leave my place to go out for an hour and come back at 5am as the sun came up.
But I caught up the last few days and I will be ready to leave July 7th. So excited! We will be recording and doing lots of podcasts with Crumb, two of which we are putting out as a CD and vinyl album. We will be playing some gigs of course and most likely will hit Barcelona for kayaking and snorkeling. Thinking about hitting Amsterdam or London but they are expensive trips and man do I want to snorkel and kayak! I have an invite to see Budapest from a friend who is in a film that is being shot there but that too is a big trip though that would be insanely fun too!
AnyDurp, the top 3 pics are from yahoo answers I think..people are actually paid to answer insane questions like this! I am going to apply for that job when i get settled in Sauve. They have tons of different writing jobs on this website, it's freelance and it pays well. And you can work from anywhere in the world which I would LOVE as I travel a lot.
The next two pics are of my mom when she was young and did some modeling. She is the one with the big hoop earrings on and the high necked blouse. Bottom pic is a drawing R Crumb did of us from a photo Aline Crumb took at Veselka's. My moms already crazy brain is EXPLODING from all of this attention lately though she said her boobs are NOT THAT BIG IN REAL LIFE.
I have had enough partying, drinking and running around like a maniac in the heat for now and am ready to go to France and get some fun work done and see more of Europe.
John's official book proposal to Abrams Comic Arts publishing goes in this week and will be in consideration after the 10th of July. If this goes through I will be helping John put this postcard book/sheet music book together and it will be out by spring and man I do hope it goes through! Pitching limited edition hardcovers of this book too with a real 78 of our music pressed and included in it. Fingers crossed!
So many good and impressive things happening for us lately starting with the gigs with Crumb in April and the NPR appearance and it feels great.
And I CANNOT WAIT until Art and Beauty comes out next year with this drawing in it!
